Up-to-date phishing information

Criminals repeatedly use various methods to obtain personal and confidential data. These include fraudulent emails, fake websites and fake calls. It is important to be vigilant and take measures to protect yourself from such scams.

Warning about phishing trap - Entry application for Great Britain

From 2 April, it will be mandatory for many travellers to the UK – the ETA (electronic travel authorisation). Ordering and issuance are regulated via the official websites of the British government. But there are also overpriced providers and fraudulent websites.

In the meantime, there are dozens of providers who provide dubious or highly overpriced offers for this on the Internet.

We advise travelers to use the original website or app for Android or iOS (the links can be found below).

Do not rely on an initial search result from a search engine. Dubious, overpriced or false offers can also be hidden there in prominent/sponsored placement.

Pay close attention to the prices shown. Excessive prices speak for external service providers who register for you with additional fees or for fake offers that are fraudulent or phishing.

Important facts about the original ETA application of the British authority at a glance:

Price approx. 10 GBP (British Pounds), from 9 April 2025 16 GBP
Processing time approx. 3 days

Offcial Website of the government to ETA.

Application via the official App.

There you can then choose between iOS and Android.

Warning: Phishing of card data

Currently, there is an increasing number of fake messages (SMS/e-mail) in the name of the Austrian Post (post.at), DHL, Netflix, Disney+, etc. in circulation.

These messages (phishing) contain information

  • about consignments that could not be delivered,
  • an outstanding amount (small sum of EUR 1.99 or EUR 2.90) or
  • Information about renewing a subscription that expires with a streaming provider.

The entry of card details or the execution of a payment is required. You will be asked to enter a code sent by SMS (smsOTP) on a website.

Warning: Such fake messages do not come from the supposedly sending companies! This is an attempt at fraud with the aim of stealing and misusing your card details!

If you have disclosed your card details and subsequently received a confirmation of the use of RaiPay, Garmin Pay, Apple Pay or another wallet, please contact your bank or the ELBA hotline immediately.

Fraud now also via telephone call

A new trend of "phishing" no longer stops at the mobile phone or landline phone. Fraudsters try to scam your credit card details by phone call.

Insurance cover expires

Currently, fraudsters (usually with a German phone number) try to get your card data by phone. Information is given that your insurance cover is about to expire. To avoid this, you will need to provide your current credit card details. Please end this phone call immediately. Your insurance cover does NOT expire!

Prank app

Customers receive a fake call from the following number: 0720 22 90 41

This number is the phone number of a prank phone app.
Customers are asked about credit card details by a pre-programmed voice.
These calls can be made for different reasons (pizza delivery, electricity company, data retrieval in general, etc.)
